MGMT 610 Syllabus

Homework Problems Only

As mentioned earlier, homework is due on Saturday but will be accepted without penalty through noon on Tuesday.  After that it will lose 25%, and will continue to lose an additional 25% per week for each additional week that it is late.  If necessary you may fax your homework to me.  See the front page for the fax number and faxing instructions.

Answers to the even numbered questions can be found in Appendix D on page A-34. Answers to the self-test questions can be found in Appendix E on page A-52.

Show your work.  It’s your job to convince me that you know what you’re doing.  This is particularly important on even-numbered or self-test exercises for which the answers are given in the Appendix.  If the answer is in the back of the book it’s not going to impress me much that you were able to show me the right answer.  Use complete and correct notation.   It’s important that you “speak the language” of statistics – it’s not enough just to get the correct numerical answer.

7/5

10,12,13

Ch. 10: 17, 26, 37a

Ch. 12: 3, 31, 37

Don’t forget to show your work on self-test problems like #3 (the answer is in the back of the book in Appendix E).  On #37 break the normal distribution into eight equally sized portions (Note that for this problem Xbar = 76.83 and s = 12.43).

Ch. 13: 1c, 11a

Use EXCEL on #1c.  Hand in the correct Excel printout.  Specify the hypotheses, the decision rule, the observed value and the conclusion.  (If you’ve run EXCEL correctly you should get a PV of 1.25E-06 = .00000125).  Use the LSD procedure from the text on #11a.

7

7/12

14

Ch. 14: 21, 29, 38, 65abc

Use EXCEL on #65.  Hand in the correct Excel printout.  In part b specify the hypotheses, the decision rule, the observed value and the conclusion.  On #29 don’t bother showing the ANOVA table.

8

7/19

15,16,19

Ch. 15: 7, 35, 36

Use EXCEL on all.  As usual, hand in the correct printout and specify hypotheses, decision rule, observed value and conclusion whenever performing hypothesis tests.  On #36c explain why 36c results differ from those of 35d.

Ch. 16: 1, 18b

Use EXCEL on all.  On #18b use the backward elimination method (using a = .05) from the text.  Note that the answer in the back of the book is incorrect for 18b.

Ch. 19: 30

Specify the hypotheses, the decision rule, the observed value and the conclusion.  Note that the data is arranged in rows instead of the usual columns.
